Hume MRT opened in 2025. What it means for Hume Avenue

Hume is a small, almost entirely private-housing pocket on Upper Bukit Timah Road that waited more than eight years for its own Downtown Line station. The station finally opened on 28 February 2025, and the freehold condominiums along Hume Avenue are now within a short walk of a direct line into town. Here is what the area holds, what it costs, and what is still to come.
Where is Hume, and why did the station open only in 2025?
Hume MRT station (DT4) sits at the junction of Hume Avenue and Upper Bukit Timah Road, within the Bukit Batok planning area, between Hillview and Beauty World on the Downtown Line. It opened to passengers on 28 February 2025, long after the rest of Downtown Line Stage 2, because it was originally built only as a concrete shell when projected ridership did not justify fitting it out.
The shell was constructed under Contract 915, awarded in June 2009, which covered 2.3km of twin-bored tunnels and a cut-and-cover box measuring roughly 30 metres by 164 metres. Fitting-out works began in 2021, making Hume the first underground infill station to open in Singapore and the 35th operational station on the Downtown Line.
The station has two entrances, one facing Upper Bukit Timah Road and one facing Hume Avenue, with covered linkways to nearby bus stops and pick-up points and 60 bicycle parking lots. It is certified BCA Green Mark Gold, with rooftop solar panels, energy-efficient lighting and a hybrid cooling system.
What is at 11 Hume Avenue?
11 Hume Avenue is one of the blocks that make up Hume Park I, a freehold condominium of 328 units developed by City Developments and completed in the mid-1990s. The development spans blocks 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 15 and 17 Hume Avenue, rises to eight storeys, and sits under 100 metres from the Hume station entrance.
Its immediate neighbour, Hume Park II, occupies 19 to 31 Hume Avenue, was also developed by City Developments and completed in 1997, with two, three and four-bedroom apartments across ten storeys. Further along the road are Summerhill at 50 Hume Avenue, which is freehold, and Hillview Green at 73 Hume Avenue, which is on a 999-year lease.
EdgeProp identified Hume Park I, Hume Park II, Symphony Heights and The Hillside as the freehold projects closest to the new station. The street itself is almost entirely low-rise private housing, which is why buyers searching here are usually looking at resale condominiums rather than new launches.
What homes near Hume cost
Hombble currently tracks 107 live listings around Hume, at an average asking price of S$3,035,002 and an average size of 1,697 sqft, which works out to S$1,737 per square foot. The mix is heavily private: 101 condominium listings, four landed homes and two HDB flats.
At project level, resale transactions over the past 12 months put Hume Park I at a median of S$1,590,000, or S$1,704 psf. Hume Park II averaged about S$1,773 psf, Summerhill about S$1,847 psf across a range of S$1,558 to S$1,945 psf, and Hillview Green about S$1,625 psf.
The long-run trend gives useful context for sellers. Hume Park I averaged S$558 psf in 1999, so prices there have roughly tripled over the intervening decades, before the station was even open.
Transport, shops and schools within reach
From Hume, the Downtown Line reaches the city centre in around 30 minutes, which the Land Transport Authority estimates saves up to 15 minutes against previous journeys. Covered walkways connect the station to local bus stops for the first and last mile.
For daily needs, The Rail Mall is about 0.5km away and HillV2 about 0.6km, with a Cold Storage at The Rail Mall and a minimart at Hillview MRT. The station also puts Bukit Timah Hill, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, the Rail Corridor and the Former Ford Factory within easy reach, which is a large part of the area's appeal.
On schooling, there are no primary schools within 1km of Hume MRT, which matters for Primary One registration priority. Options in the 1km to 2km band include Bukit Timah Primary, Bukit View Primary, CHIJ Our Lady Queen of Peace, Keming Primary, Lianhua Primary and Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary. St Francis Methodist School, an international school, is about 0.5km away.
The outlook for Hume
One stop away, the Beauty World Integrated Transport Hub is taking shape at the junction of Jalan Jurong Kechil and Upper Bukit Timah Road, linked to Beauty World MRT by an underground passage. The project traces back to the Urban Redevelopment Authority's 2019 Draft Master Plan, with the construction tender called in June 2020 and opening expected in 2028.
Alongside it, plans for the wider Upper Bukit Timah corridor include a Bukit Timah Community Building combining a community club with a market and hawker centre, plus continued work on the Rail Corridor and the Bukit Timah-Rochor Green Corridor. Together these give the area a second wave of improvement after the station.
For buyers, the draw is a mostly freehold, low-rise enclave that now has rail access it lacked for years, with green space on the doorstep and a modest supply of listings. For sellers, the station is already part of the pitch, and the nearby transport hub gives a credible reason to argue the area is not finished rerating yet.
